How I work

I meet you where you are. We move at your pace. I never rush. And guided by your feedback, I do not waste any time.

I am responsible for asking questions that lead you somewhere new, that get you thinking thoughts you have not thought before.

Each time we meet we start where you are, moving toward something, focused on what matters to you.

SPECIALTIES

Couple’s Therapy

Your relationship is not the problem; the problem is the problem.

I specialize in Narrative Therapy — a curious, creative, and respectful approach to working with people in relationships. I work with your ways of understanding your life together, focusing on what matters most to you to as a couple. We collaborate to (re)connect with the relationship you hope for. We move away from the blaming habits of the problem. We move toward the capacity to navigate conflict and difference in ways that make your relationship what you want it to be.

Queer and neurodivergent/neurodiverse couples welcome.

OCD Treatment

I specialize in a neuro-affirming version of Rumination-Focused Exposure and Response Prevention. You will learn the skill of not ruminating (and not doing compulsions) and how to recognize OCD through approachable activities. We will also explore how OCD arises and how it fits in with the rest of your experience.

If you are wondering about OCD, or interested in learning more, I recommend a few resources here.

Affirming Neurodiversity

I am committed to the neurodiversity movement. You are the expert about your experience of the world. My role is to support your healing in ways that align with how you operate. This process can be very affirming as you more fully understand how you work and what works for you. I offer couples therapy for those seeking to collaboratively negotiate their differences. Burnout and Loss of Purpose

Are you ready to stop feeling like burnout is your fault? My approach is based in thinking critically about the systems you are part of, what works for you, and the ways that the two may not line up. At the same time we explore how you have managed to survive and resist the pressures you face. Your values will inform the process as your sense of what might be possible grows.

Experience

I have been working as a therapist for ten years, primarily in community mental health settings, serving adults, youth, and families with high support needs. Early in my career I completed a year-long, immersive training in Narrative Therapy, which is my primary clinical orientation. I currently offer Narrative training and supervision, and I have many years experience supporting other therapists with burnout. I strive to be gender-affirming, anti-racist, and sex/kink-positive in my work.

More recently I developed a specialization in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, panic, and health anxiety. In the last three years this has evolved into a neuro-affirming, Rumination-Focused ERP approach (see OCD resources for more info).

I received my MSW from UC Berkeley in 2015. Prior to that, I worked for four years as a special educator at a public high school in Oakland. My BA is in Literature and Creative Writing from Brown University.

Interests

I enjoy riding my bicycle around town and have also cycle toured many countries around the world. I grew up boogie boarding at Seabright beach, but currently prefer riding my surf mat.

I am serious in my convictions about social justice and when relevant, I incorporate critical and post-modern perspectives into my work.

I currently do not accept insurance. It is possible for services to be covered in full or in part depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan.
